What are the steps for proper use of condom?
1. Use a new, good quality latex condom and check the expiry date before use.
2. Put the condom on before the penis touches the vagina, mouth or anus.
3. With care, hold the condom by the tip to squeeze out the air; this allows room for the semen.
4. Put the condom on the end of the erect penis, unroll it all the way down to the hair.
5. Use water-based lubricants; oil-based lubricants can cause the condom to break.
6. After ejaculation and before the penis gets soft, grip the rim of the condom and carefully withdraw.
7. Gently pull the condom off the penis, making sure that semen doesn't spill out.
8. Wrap the condom in a tissue and throw it in the trash.
Should I throw condoms into the rubbish bin?
Yes and no. A condom is a natural product and decomposes when exposed to light and oxygen. Condoms shouldn’t be flushed down the toilet though; they clog up sewage treatment plants.
How safe are condoms?
Condoms are the only type of contraceptive that also protects from HIV infection and sexually transmitted diseases. As contraceptives, condoms are almost as safe as the birth control pill. Condoms are easy to use, there
is very little that could go wrong. But no contraceptive will guarantee 100% effectiveness.
What mistakes can be made using a condom?
Condoms are five times thinner than a human hair. That’s why it’s easy to tear a condom with a sharp object or even sharp fingernails. Don’t use scissors to open the foil wrapping. The most common mistake is putting the condom on the wrong way round. Once you realise the condom cannot be rolled down it may have come into contact with the pre-ejaculation fluid that can contain sperms. You have to use a fresh condom. And: all oily, fatty substances are true condom killers.
Do I have the right size? / Will the condom fit him?
Condoms are made from natural latex. It’s very elastic and will automatically adapt to the size of the penis. But as a large sock will fit a small foot – try out different types and sizes until you find the perfect fit for you. FAIR SQUARED currently offers you three sizes. FAIR SQUARED Ultra thin and FAIR SQUARED sensitive dry have a nominal width of 52mm. For FAIR SQUARED original the nominal width is 54mm. The largest condom is FAIR SQUARED XL with a nominal width of 60mm.
Can condoms tear?
Yes, once they come into contact with an oily or fatty substance. Do the test: spread a little butter on a condom and fill it with water. It takes about 30 seconds and your condom can be used as a watering can! The lesson: never bring a condom into contact with fatty or oily substances like body lotion or Vaseline.
How do I store condoms correctly?
Keep your condoms in a cool, dry place and protected from exposure to direct sunlight. You can keep them in the fridge. If latex condoms are exposed to temperatures of more that 28°C for a long period of time they age more quickly, dry out and even porous.
Can I use condoms together with a lubricant?
Lubes help relieve dryness immediately and lubricate the vagina. Added lubrication can be beneficial during intercourse. Please choose lubricants that have been produced to be used with condoms. They will be watersoluble or contain silicone, they must not contain oily or fatty substance. Always check ingredients and usage information.
What’s the coating on FAIR SQUARED condoms?
Like 99% of condoms worldwide FAIR SQUARED condoms, too, are coated with silicone oil. In their foil cover condoms have an expiration date of five years. Unfortunately water based lubricants would dry out during that time and are therefore no alternative to silicone based lubricants. We have taken the conscious decision to offer a dry, non-coated version: the FAIR SQUARED sensitive dry. The user can decide to use his favourite lubricant in whatever quantity – or not use one at all.
Can I wear two condoms on top of each other?
It’s not necessary. On the contrary, it is likely to cause problems. Our condoms comply with the most rigorous quality standards.
Can I keep condoms in my wallet or my pocket?
No. Condoms should be protected from heat (radiators, direct sunlight, glove compartment in a car during summer) and constant pressure (wallet or trouser pocket).
Condoms and nitrosamines
All latex condoms are vulcanised (the latex composition on a glass recipient is firmed up through heat exposure). During this process nitrosamines develop. They are removed from the condoms through washing. The condoms are not rendered completely nitrosamine free, but the nitrosamine content lies below the detection limit and is similar to what can be found in a baby comforter. Nitrosamines in our condoms do not pose a health risk.
FAIR SQUARED and the carbon footprint
How much CO2 is emitted during the production of a condom? We had it measured, it’s currently 0.08 kg per condom. FAIR SQUARED offsets this emission through an afforestation project in the biosphere reserve Schaalsee, Germany.
